Into the 24th Week

I’ve completely lost track of this pregnancy in terms of months but I’m on in weeks. For those without kids, a full term pregnancy is 40 weeks from the mom’s last menstruation or 38 weeks from ovulation/conception. Everyone tends to go by the 40-week number.

Jaime had a doctor’s appointment yesterday. Just the regular, oil change type visit. Everything looks good and Wee Man is already proving to be a handful. He apparently kept ducking out of the way whenever the nurse tried to check his heartbeat. Every time she found it he would move. :D Jaime was excited because it was the first time they measured her belly with a tape measure. Now that her belly is more pronounced I think she feels a little more vindicated. For the past four months the people she works with haven’t even really known she’s pregnant. Now she gets to flaunt the belly.

I haven’t been to the last few doctor’s appointments. I went to the first few but taking time off of work for it gets tough, especially when the appointments are so incredibly lame. As Jaime says “You don’t have to be there, I don’t even want to be there!” I will try to make the next appointment though as I’m finally having some questions.

Now that we’re so far along I’m starting to think about preparations. I have stuff to do. After reading my expectant dad book I realized there’s a lot of little things like cleaning the insides of the cars (I won’t want to do that in December), packing bags, making sure cameras batteries are charged all the time, and other little things. Of course, it doesn’t all get done right away but its in my head now. I also want to know a lot about the actual process that’s going to happen at the hospital. I don’t want to wait until delivery day to answer any questions.

Mostly what is concerning me now is the whole circumcision question. It’s killin’ me. On one hand, I want my son to look normal (normal of course is relative to me an my upbringing) but on the other hand it can seem sort of barbaric and unnecessary. It doesn’t help that the medical community on the whole really doesn’t take a stand either way. There are pros and cons to both, medically, but no clear-cut reason for either. It’s easy to find ton of opinions on the subject but it still seems to be a gut decision in the end. My gut is leading to the cut job as long as the doctor doesn’t have palsy.
