House Arrest

Jaime and Aidan stopped by the office yesterday to show off and to have some lunch. It was really nice to see him in the middle of the day. I really hate leaving him in the morning to go to work. I won’t lie, it would be a lot easier to leave him with Jaime if he was screaming and crying but usually he’s just fed and lays there wide eyed and alert making faces and noises and trying to fit his fist in his mouth. So to be able to see him again at 11:30 was a treat. Unfortunately, he was a bit on the ornery side at lunch. He apparently didn’t eat quite as much as he wanted.

It was also nice for Jaime to get out of the house. We’ve both been going a bit stir crazy lately. Its a bit of an ordeal to leave the house with him so we keep our trips to a minimum. Our cabin fever was clearly illustrated by our wild excitement at the prospect of going to my aunt Joan’s for a game night last Saturday. No offense, Joan, but a trip to your house for some pizza and board games just shouldn’t generate as much excitement as it did.

Now that we’re reasonably healthy we’re going to try getting out more. Tonight is a trip to the grocery store but we hope to expand our horizons this weekend with a trip to a mall for a while. Still not Disney World but its better than wearing permanent butt cheek impressions into the couch.

Much of the difficulty with taking Aidan out has to do with food. He eats every 3 hours (sometimes only 2 hours) and the feeding process followed by a diaper change takes 30 minutes. That means you get 2.5 hours for travel time and activity time before he needs to eat again if you’re lucky. If we were doing bottles its a no brainer. However, Jaime is breast feeding. She’s not quite earthy enough to feel comfortable whipping out the girls in the food court so that means we need to be back home in 2.5 hours.

She’s been starting to express and hopefully that will work out so we can take bottles of milk with us for feedings. It will make things a lot easier. Unfortunately, the breast pump is no miracle working and there’s a bit of a learning curve. For now we’ll have to live with the compromise of a parking lot retreat to feed in the car with strategically placed towels. As long as it gets us out of the house!
