Singing Fool

Monday, May 8th, 2006

Who had singer in the pool? It looks like our wee genius may be a little opera star.

Aidan was quite the pain for most of the weekend. We think he might actually be bothered by some allergies because, although he never had a fever, he was pretty cranky all weekend and had some breathing issues. He was starting to sound an awful like our pug at points.

One brief reprieve from the crankiness was church where he, remarkably enough, almost always puts on his best show. He rarely acts up unless he’s due a feeding and he’s always ready to give a stranger a smile. Most of that is due to the fact that he’s incredibly nosy but I’ll take what I can get.

Sunday he started a new trick. During one of the songs at mass, he became fascinated with the man seated behind me. This man is one of the regulars we see each week and has a habit of singing loudly and proudly. Aidan couldn’t take his eyes off of him and about halfway through the song; decided he wanted to sing too. The best part was, even though what he was singing was unintelligible, he was on key! I couldn’t believe it. He sang along in parts through the rest of the song. Of course, by the time the song was done, I was in tears laughing.

Every time a song began for the rest of mass, there was my little choirboy belting it out. He could care less about the instrumental songs; it’s the vocals he craves! This video shows him later in the day continuing his vocal practice. This kid won’t shut up sometimes, further proof that he is my son.

Please Fence Me In

Friday, April 28th, 2006

Its Friday so I thought I’d humor you with a little video of the laughing kid. This is by far his favorite amusement. Its just about guaranteed to get a laugh regardless of his mood.

I just got the call today that our fence is going in tomorrow. On the one hand, I’m very excited. That’s a really quick turn around for a fence. On the other hand, I need to do a lot of cleaning and yard work tomorrow. This won’t make it easy. Couple that with the fact that now I have to line the deck with lattice tomorrow in order to use the fence (the underside of the deck is open, if I don’t block it, the unleashed dogs will get under there in seconds and never come out.) Its sort of one more thing I didn’t need tomorrow.

The real upside is we can start letting the dogs frolic of the leash when we’re home. They will be beside themselves. Maddie has never been able to run in a space that big so I’m sure she’ll exhaust herself in seconds. Julie, on the other hand, was used to that kind of freedom before she came to us so I’m sure she’ll feel this is long overdue.

Aidan’s baptism is Sunday so there will be a cleaning tornado through the house and the yards tomorrow. We did a lot of the big stuff earlier in preparation but there’s still the little things to do, and a lot of them. Now with the fence in the mix, it looks like my idea of any lawn work just went away. Boohoo.

Whirlwind

Monday, April 24th, 2006

We’ve got some new video and some new pictures of Aidan but rather than throwing it all up there now, I’m rationing to make it last the week!

This was a bit of a crazy weekend. Saturday morning started with news that Jaime’s brother got jumped and beat up while dropping off his fiance Friday night. He had to spend the night in the emergency room and everyone is pretty upset by it. What’s most upsetting to me is that Michael is a nice kid and about as non-threatening as they come. He caught these kids rifling through his carand I guess they decided it would be fun to beat him up for good measure. While we’re thankful that this wasn’t much worse, its still just a reminder of how crappy the world can be and how inhuman people can be.

Jaime and I had plans to go to my grandmother’s birthday dinner on Saturday night. Those plans hung in limbo for a little while until Jean and Bob decided that they would take Aidan for the night despite not having slept the night before themselves. So Jaime and I got a night out with adults and an uninterrupted night’s sleep.

We slept for nearly 12 hours Saturday night and I can’t remember ever enjoying sleep more. Not waking up tired was like some bizzarre high. We woke up late though and had to rush around a bit to get ready for church.

Right after 11am mass Jaime and I got hitched again but this time God approved. Father Steuterman married us in front of our family and then we went out to Wright’s Farm for lunch. Because nothing says “I want to spend the rest of my life with you” like all you can eat chicken dinner!

For the rest of Sunday we sort of laid low. The weather was crappy, the Sox were on, and we missed the boy after a night without him. Next weekend is the baptism so we’ll be spending every spare moment cleaning and preaning for the party!

Friday Videos

Friday, April 7th, 2006

Last night and this morning we managed to get some video of the little guy. He’s really starting to explore more with his hands. He’s more interested in material and fabric and manages to do a pretty good job of getting these rings into his mouth.

For the last couple of weeks he’s been intent on gumming whatever he can get into his mouth. We’re fairly certain that he’s got some teeth working their way in. He doesn’t seem to be bothered by it much but he’s definitely feeling them. He’s also been running a slight temperature off and on which can happen when babies teeth.

I’ve missed him this past week since we’ve been trying to get him on a sleep schedule that has him asleep shortly after I get home. I get to see him but I don’t really get to play with him until the weekend. The good news is that he at least seems to be getting some naps in during the day now which is a plus. The downside is that he seems to be sleeper for shorter periods at night. He used to wake up only once, maybe twice a night. Lately he’s guaranteed to wake up twice if not three times. We’re hoping that this will disappear as he gets used to sleeping more.

So there’s two new videos of Aidan on the Video Page and a couple new photos in his album. Hopefully there will be some more from this weekend!

We finally caught Aidan laughing on video. I would have had it up soonersince we shot it Friday but it was a big file and it took me a while to find the software to edit it down. Enjoy!
